A fire broke out at a house in the Blackmud Creek neighborhood of Edmonton on Monday evening, causing significant damage to the property.
According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, the fire was reported at around 6:30 p.m. at a two-story house on Blackmud Creek Drive. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
Crews quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring houses. The blaze was brought under control within an hour, but not before causing extensive damage to the house.
Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Neighboring residents were evacuated as a precaution, but were able to return to their homes once the fire was contained.
The homeowner, who was not present at the time of the fire, has been notified of the incident. The extent of the damage to the property is still being assessed.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is reminding residents to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in place. They also urge people to never leave cooking unattended and to properly dispose of smoking materials.
