Kelowna residents were left shaken and confused after an incident at the local Walmart on Wednesday evening. According to witnesses, an unknown individual released an irritant spray inside the store, causing chaos and forcing an evacuation.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm, when the store was filled with shoppers. Customers and employees began to experience difficulty breathing and watery eyes, prompting them to quickly evacuate the building. Emergency services were called to the scene and the store was closed for the remainder of the evening.
Despite the chaos and confusion, no arrests have been made yet in connection to the incident. The Kelowna RCMP is currently investigating the matter and is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual responsible.
In a statement, Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy stated, “We take these types of incidents very seriously and are actively working to identify and locate the person responsible. We are asking anyone with information to come forward and speak with our investigators.”
The RCMP has also reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community and that the incident is being treated as an isolated event.
Meanwhile, Walmart has released a statement expressing their concern for the well-being of their customers and employees. They have also confirmed that the store will remain closed until it is deemed safe to reopen.
