Spiny stowaway: Porcupine travels from northern B.C. to Kelowna inside plane wreckage

A spiny stowaway porcupine has made headlines after traveling from northern British Columbia to Kelowna in the wreckage of a plane.

The unexpected passenger was discovered by a maintenance worker at the Kelowna International Airport, who noticed the porcupine’s quills sticking out of a damaged section of the plane’s fuselage.

According to airport officials, the plane had been involved in a crash landing in northern BC and was being transported to Kelowna for repairs. It is believed that the porcupine had snuck into the plane during its time on the ground in the remote area.

The discovery of the porcupine has raised concerns about the safety and security protocols at the airport. Airport spokesperson, Jessica Hewitt, stated that they are investigating how the animal was able to get onto the plane and are taking steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The porcupine, who has been named “Quill” by airport staff, was safely removed from the plane and taken to a local wildlife rehabilitation center. Despite the long journey, Quill was found to be in good health and is expected to be released back into the wild once he has fully recovered.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough safety checks and procedures in the aviation industry. It also highlights the resilience and adaptability of wildlife, as Quill was able to survive a plane crash and a long journey without any major injuries.

The airport has expressed their gratitude to the maintenance worker who discovered Quill and ensured his safe removal from the plane. They also thank the wildlife rehabilitation center for their care and attention to the stowaway porcupine.

As for Quill, he may have had a wild adventure, but he will soon be back where he belongs – in the great outdoors.
