Nearly 900 applicants compete for 77 Missouri marijuana licenses

Real True News

Nearly 900 applicants are vying for just 77 medical marijuana licenses in Missouri, according to the latest figures released by the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services.

The highly competitive application process, which closed on August 17, attracted a diverse pool of candidates, including individuals, partnerships, and corporations.

Out of the 898 total applications received, 554 were for cultivation licenses, 226 for dispensary licenses, 87 for manufacturing licenses, and 31 for testing lab licenses.

The state’s medical marijuana program, which was approved by voters in 2018, allows for the cultivation, manufacturing, and sale of medical cannabis to qualified patients with debilitating medical conditions.

The Department of Health and Senior Services will now begin the process of reviewing and scoring the applications, with the goal of awarding the licenses by the end of the year.

However, the competition is expected to be fierce, as the number of licenses available is limited and the demand for medical marijuana in Missouri is high.

According to industry experts, the state’s medical marijuana market could generate up to $500 million in annual sales once it is fully operational.

The Department of Health and Senior Services has not yet announced a timeline for when the licenses will be awarded, but applicants can expect a thorough and rigorous evaluation process.

In addition to meeting strict regulatory requirements, applicants will also be evaluated on their business plans, security measures, and financial stability.

The state’s medical marijuana program has faced some delays and legal challenges, but with nearly 900 applicants competing for just 77 licenses, it is clear that the demand for medical cannabis in Missouri is strong.

As the evaluation process begins, all eyes will be on the Department of Health and Senior Services to see which applicants will be granted the opportunity to enter the state’s lucrative medical marijuana market.
