The British Columbia Lions have added another name to their Wall of Fame, honoring one of their most iconic players, Geroy Simon Phillips.
Phillips, who played for the Lions from 2001 to 2012, was inducted into the Wall of Fame during a special ceremony at BC Place on Saturday. The former wide receiver was joined by his family, friends, and former teammates as he received this prestigious recognition.
During his time with the Lions, Phillips became one of the most decorated players in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He holds the record for most receiving yards in CFL history with 16,352 yards, and is second in all-time receptions with 1,029. He also won three Grey Cup championships with the Lions in 2006, 2011, and 2012.
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Phillips was known for his leadership and dedication to the community. He was a two-time winner of the CFL’s Tom Pate Memorial Award, which recognizes players for their outstanding sportsmanship and contributions to their team, community, and association.
Phillips expressed his gratitude for the honor, saying, “I am truly humbled to be recognized by the BC Lions organization and to join the elite group of players on the Wall of Fame. My time with the Lions was filled with unforgettable memories and I am grateful for the support of my teammates, coaches, and fans.”
The Wall of Fame was established in 1987 to honor players, coaches, and builders who have made significant contributions to the BC Lions organization. Phillips joins 50 other inductees, including legendary players like Lui Passaglia, Willie Fleming, and Jim Young.
The Lions’ president, Rick LeLacheur, praised Phillips for his impact on the team and the community, stating, “Geroy’s name will forever be etched in Lions history and his contributions to our organization and the CFL are immeasurable. He is a true ambassador for the sport and we are proud to honor him with this well-deserved recognition.”
Phillips’ name and number will now be displayed on the Wall of Fame at BC Place, alongside other Lions greats. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players and fans, solidifying his place in the history of the BC Lions.
