Lethbridge, a city in southern Alberta, has opened three seasonal yard waste sites on Tuesday to help residents dispose of their yard waste.
The sites, located at Bridge Drive, Blackwolf and the Waste and Recycling Centre, will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends until November 15.
According to the city, the sites will accept grass clippings, leaves, branches, and other yard waste materials. However, they will not accept sod, rocks, or any other non-organic materials.
Residents are reminded to bring their own shovels and containers to unload their waste. The city also asks that all waste be placed in clear plastic bags to help with the sorting process.
The sites are free for Lethbridge residents to use, but proof of residency may be required. Non-residents can also use the sites for a fee of $5 per load.
The city is also encouraging residents to consider composting their yard waste at home as an alternative to using the sites.
The opening of these seasonal yard waste sites is part of the city’s efforts to promote sustainable waste management practices and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
