A police officer in Brampton has been charged after a collision that left a civilian driver hospitalized.
According to Peel Regional Police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening at the intersection of Queen Street East and Kennedy Road. The officer, who was on duty at the time, was driving a marked police vehicle when it collided with a civilian vehicle.
The civilian driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Following an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Constable Kyle Villers has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that result in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault.
In a statement, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah expressed his concern for the well-being of the civilian driver and stated that the officer has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
The officer is scheduled to appear in court on April 27.
