Kelowna residents can expect smoother roads this year as the city announces its list of roads to be repaved. The City of Kelowna has allocated a budget of $8.5 million for road maintenance and repaving projects in 2021.
According to the city’s engineering manager, Jim Zaffino, the roads selected for repaving were chosen based on a number of factors including traffic volume, pavement condition, and utility upgrades. The goal is to improve the overall safety and functionality of the roads for both drivers and pedestrians.
Some of the major roads on the list include portions of Gordon Drive, Springfield Road, and Lakeshore Road. These roads have been identified as high priority due to their heavy traffic flow and deteriorating pavement conditions. In addition, utility upgrades will also be carried out on these roads to ensure long-term functionality.
Other roads on the list include sections of Benvoulin Road, KLO Road, and Richter Street. These roads have been deemed as medium priority and will also undergo repaving and utility upgrades.
The city has also allocated funds for the repaving of several residential streets, including portions of Ethel Street, Richter Street, and Glenmore Road. These roads were selected based on their pavement condition and the number of complaints received from residents.
The repaving projects are expected to begin in the spring and will continue throughout the summer months. The city has assured residents that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and inconvenience during the construction process.
In addition to repaving, the city will also be carrying out maintenance work on various roads, including crack sealing, microsurfacing, and pothole repairs. This maintenance work is crucial in extending the lifespan of the roads and preventing further deterioration.
The City of Kelowna is committed to ensuring the safety and functionality of its roads for the benefit of all residents. With the allocated budget and strategic selection of roads, the city is confident that this year’s repaving projects will greatly improve the overall condition of Kelowna’s roads.
