Montreal Police and Prosecutors Join Forces to Tackle Strangulation Cases

In an effort to better address cases of strangulation, the Montreal Police and prosecutors have launched a joint project. This initiative aims to improve the handling of these types of cases and ensure that justice is served for victims.

Strangulation is a serious form of domestic violence that often goes unreported and can have long-lasting physical and psychological effects on victims. It is also a strong predictor of future violence and can escalate to more severe forms of abuse.

The project, which was announced on Tuesday, will involve specialized training for police officers and prosecutors on how to properly investigate and prosecute strangulation cases. This includes learning how to recognize the signs and symptoms of strangulation, gathering evidence, and building a strong case.

According to Montreal Police Chief Sylvain Caron, this project is a crucial step in addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety of victims. “Strangulation is a serious crime that can have deadly consequences. By working together, we can ensure that these cases are handled with the utmost care and that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions,” he stated.

The project is also being supported by the Montreal Domestic Violence Roundtable, a coalition of community organizations and government agencies that work together to address domestic violence in the city. “We are pleased to see the Montreal Police and prosecutors taking a proactive approach to addressing strangulation cases. This project will not only improve the handling of these cases but also send a strong message that domestic violence will not be tolerated in our city,” said Roundtable spokesperson, Marie-Claude Landry.

The joint project is set to begin in the coming weeks and is expected to have a significant impact on the way strangulation cases are handled in Montreal. It is a positive step towards ensuring that victims of domestic violence receive the justice and support they deserve.
