Kelowna bystanders prevent suspected impaired driver from leaving scene

Kelowna bystanders stepped in to prevent a suspected impaired driver from leaving the scene of an accident on Tuesday evening.

According to witnesses, the driver had crashed into a parked car on Pandosy Street and attempted to flee the scene. However, several bystanders quickly intervened and blocked the driver’s vehicle from leaving.

One witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the chaotic scene. “I heard a loud crash and saw the driver trying to leave. I knew I had to do something to stop them,” they said.

The bystanders were able to keep the driver at the scene until police arrived. The driver was then taken into custody and is facing charges of impaired driving and hit-and-run.

Const. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP praised the actions of the bystanders, stating that their quick thinking and intervention likely prevented a more serious incident from occurring.

“Thanks to the bravery and quick actions of these bystanders, we were able to apprehend the driver and ensure the safety of others on the road,” said Paré.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community involvement in keeping our roads safe. It also highlights the potential dangers of impaired driving and the need for individuals to take responsibility for their actions.

The Kelowna RCMP is urging anyone who witnesses suspected impaired driving to contact them immediately. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more responsible community.
