Montreal, QC – The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has announced that Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will be receiving an honorary doctorate from the institution.
Price, who has been a standout player for the Canadiens since joining the team in 2007, will be recognized for his contributions to the sport of hockey and his philanthropic efforts off the ice.
The UNBC Board of Governors unanimously approved the decision to award Price with the honorary doctorate, citing his impressive career achievements and his dedication to giving back to his community.
In addition to his impressive record on the ice, Price has also been a strong advocate for mental health awareness and has worked with organizations such as the Breakfast Club of Canada and the Children’s Wish Foundation.
UNBC President Dr. Daniel Weeks expressed his excitement for Price’s upcoming visit to the university, stating, “We are honored to have Carey Price join our community and receive this well-deserved recognition. He is not only an exceptional athlete, but also a role model for our students and a true inspiration for all Canadians.”
Price will be presented with the honorary doctorate at UNBC’s convocation ceremony on May 28th, where he will also deliver a speech to the graduating class.
This prestigious honor is just one of many accolades that Price has received throughout his career, including being named the NHL’s most valuable player in 2015 and winning a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The UNBC community is eagerly anticipating Price’s visit and looks forward to celebrating his achievements and contributions to the world of hockey.
