Montreal's players already excited for Year 2 of PWHL: 'This league is on the up'

Montreal’s hockey players are eagerly anticipating the second year of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), with many expressing their excitement for the league’s growth and potential.

The PWHL, which was established in 2019, is a development league for female hockey players aged 16 to 19. It aims to provide a high-level competitive environment for players to improve their skills and prepare for college or university hockey.

According to Montreal player, Sarah Tremblay, the league has already made a significant impact in its first year. “The PWHL has given us the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the province and has helped us develop as athletes,” she said.

Tremblay’s sentiments are echoed by her teammate, Emily Jones, who believes that the league has raised the bar for female hockey in Montreal. “The level of competition in the PWHL is intense and it has pushed us to become better players,” she said.

The league currently has 20 teams, with 10 in the Greater Toronto Area and 10 in Quebec. Montreal’s team, the Montreal Stars, finished in the top 10 last season and is looking to improve their ranking in the upcoming season.

Head coach of the Montreal Stars, Marie-Claude Roy, is confident in her team’s abilities and is excited for the league’s growth. “The PWHL is on the up and we are proud to be a part of it. We have a strong team and we are ready to compete against the best,” she said.

The league has also caught the attention of scouts from various universities and colleges, providing players with the opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially earn scholarships.

Montreal’s players are not only excited for their own development, but also for the growth of female hockey in general. “The PWHL is a step in the right direction for women’s hockey and I am proud to be a part of it,” said Jones.

The second season of the PWHL is set to begin in September and Montreal’s players are already gearing up for another competitive and exciting year. With the league’s dedication to developing female hockey players and its growing popularity, it is clear that the PWHL is here to stay and will continue to make a positive impact on the sport.
