A bear that was spotted in the town of Lumsden, Saskatchewan has been euthanized by authorities after posing a risk to public safety, according to the Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The bear was first seen in the town on Monday, April 12th, and was reported to the RCMP by concerned residents. The RCMP immediately launched an investigation and worked closely with the Ministry of Environment to assess the situation.

After careful consideration and consultation with wildlife experts, it was determined that the bear posed a significant threat to public safety and could not be safely relocated. As a result, the decision was made to euthanize the bear.

The RCMP would like to remind the public to exercise caution when encountering wildlife and to report any sightings to the appropriate authorities. In this case, the prompt reporting of the bear’s presence allowed for swift action to be taken, ensuring the safety of the community.

The Ministry of Environment also urges residents to take preventative measures to avoid attracting bears, such as securing garbage and food sources. This not only protects the community but also helps to prevent the unnecessary euthanization of wildlife.

The RCMP would like to thank the residents of Lumsden for their cooperation and understanding during this incident. The safety of the public is always our top priority, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure the well-being of our communities.
