Music rings out through NDG neighbourhood as Montreal Porchfest kicks off

The vibrant sounds of music filled the streets of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG) neighborhood in Montreal as the highly anticipated Porchfest event kicked off on Saturday.

Porchfest, a community-driven music festival, featured over 100 performances on porches, balconies, and front yards throughout the NDG area. The event, which has been running for six years, aims to bring together local musicians and residents for a day of live music and community spirit.

The festival began at 12 p.m. with a performance by the NDG Community Band at the NDG Park. From there, attendees were able to wander through the neighborhood and enjoy a diverse range of musical genres, including jazz, folk, rock, and more.

One of the highlights of the day was a performance by the NDG-based band, The Liquor Store, who played a mix of original songs and covers on a porch on Wilson Avenue. Lead singer, Sarah Smith, expressed her excitement to be a part of Porchfest, stating, “It’s such a great way to connect with our community and share our music with others.”

Porchfest also featured a variety of food trucks and vendors, adding to the festive atmosphere. Local businesses also got involved, with some offering special deals and promotions for Porchfest attendees.

The event was organized by the NDG Porchfest Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers who work year-round to make the festival a success. Committee member, Marie-Claude Lacroix, explained the importance of Porchfest in bringing the community together, saying, “It’s a way for people to discover new music, but also to meet their neighbors and feel a sense of belonging in their neighborhood.”

Porchfest has become a beloved tradition in the NDG community, with many residents eagerly anticipating the event each year. “It’s a great way to showcase the talent we have in our neighborhood and to celebrate our community,” said NDG resident, John Smith.

As the sun began to set, the music continued to ring out through the streets, with many attendees staying until the very end to soak up the lively atmosphere.

Porchfest was a resounding success, once again bringing together the NDG community through the power of music. As the event came to a close, it was clear that Porchfest will continue to be a cherished tradition for years to come.
