N.B. heat wave: Temperatures could feel like 40 C this week

New Brunswick, Canada – A heat warning has been issued for the province of New Brunswick as hot weather continues to sweep through the region.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s with humidex values reaching the mid-40s in some areas. The heat warning is in effect for most of the province, including Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John.

The warning advises residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the extreme heat. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and seeking out air-conditioned spaces if possible.

The warning also reminds people to never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, as temperatures can quickly become dangerous.

This heat wave is expected to last for several days, with temperatures remaining high throughout the week. Environment Canada is urging residents to stay informed and to check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with chronic health conditions.

New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jennifer Russell, also issued a statement urging people to take the necessary precautions to stay safe during this heat wave.

“Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for those who are more vulnerable,” said Dr. Russell. “It’s important to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and seek out cool places to escape the heat.”

The heat warning comes as many parts of Canada are experiencing record-breaking temperatures, with British Columbia and Alberta also under heat warnings.

Environment Canada advises residents to continue monitoring weather updates and to follow the advice of local authorities. They also remind people to never underestimate the dangers of extreme heat and to take all necessary precautions to stay safe.
