JDSS Athletes Shine at CWOSSA and OFSAA Championships
The John Diefenbaker Secondary School (JDSS) athletes have once again proven their exceptional skills and determination at the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) and Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships.
At the CWOSSA championships, held on May 16 and 17, the JDSS track and field team brought home a total of 14 medals, including six gold, four silver, and four bronze. The team’s impressive performance earned them a second-place finish overall in the team standings.
Among the standout athletes were Grade 12 student, Sarah Johnson, who won gold in both the senior girls’ 100m and 200m races, and Grade 11 student, Jack Thompson, who took home gold in the senior boys’ 800m and 1500m races.
The JDSS athletes continued their winning streak at the OFSAA championships, held on June 6 and 7. The team brought home a total of 10 medals, including three gold, four silver, and three bronze. Their outstanding performance earned them a fourth-place finish overall in the team standings.
Grade 12 student, Sarah Johnson, once again proved her dominance on the track, winning gold in the senior girls’ 100m race and silver in the 200m race. Grade 11 student, Jack Thompson, also had a strong showing, winning silver in the senior boys’ 800m race and bronze in the 1500m race.
In addition to their individual successes, the JDSS relay teams also performed exceptionally well, with the senior girls’ 4x100m team winning gold and the senior boys’ 4x400m team winning silver.
Coach Mark Smith expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, stating, “Our athletes have worked incredibly hard all season and it’s great to see their efforts pay off at the highest level of competition.”
The JDSS athletes have once again proven themselves to be top contenders in the world of high school track and field.
