Smiths Falls Police Service has made history by appointing its first female chief, effective immediately.
After a thorough and rigorous selection process, Deputy Chief Jill Empey has been chosen to lead the police force in Smiths Falls, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the service’s 135-year history.
Empey has been with the Smiths Falls Police Service for over 25 years, starting as a constable in 1995 and working her way up the ranks to become deputy chief in 2018. She has also served as acting chief on several occasions, showcasing her leadership skills and dedication to the community.
In her new role as chief, Empey will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the police service, as well as developing and implementing strategic plans to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Mayor Shawn Pankow expressed his confidence in Empey’s abilities, stating, “I have no doubt that Chief Empey will continue to serve our community with the utmost professionalism and dedication.”
