Ticketmaster reports 'data security incident,' customers' personal information may have been stolen

Ticketmaster, one of the world’s leading ticket sales and distribution companies, has reported a data security incident that may have compromised the personal information of its customers. The company released a statement on Thursday, acknowledging that a third-party supplier, Inbenta Technologies, had suffered a data breach, potentially affecting the personal information of Ticketmaster customers.

According to the statement, the breach occurred on February 2018 and was discovered in June of the same year. Ticketmaster immediately launched an investigation and found that the breach was caused by malicious software on Inbenta’s product, which was used to provide chat support on Ticketmaster’s website. The company has since terminated its relationship with Inbenta.

The compromised information includes names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, payment details, and login information of customers who purchased tickets between September 2017 and June 2018. However, Ticketmaster has assured that no credit card information, including CVV numbers, was compromised.

The company has also stated that less than 5% of its global customer base has been affected by the breach. Ticketmaster has already started notifying affected customers and is offering them free identity monitoring services. It has also advised customers to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity.

This incident has raised concerns about the security of personal information in the digital age. Ticketmaster has assured its customers that it takes data protection seriously and has implemented additional security measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. It has also urged customers to be cautious of any suspicious emails or calls asking for personal information.

In response to the incident, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK has launched an investigation. The ICO has reminded companies of their responsibility to protect personal information and has warned that those who fail to do so may face fines of up to 4% of their global turnover.

Ticketmaster has apologized for any inconvenience caused and has promised to keep its customers updated on the investigation. It has also set up a dedicated website for customers to get more information about the incident and to check if they have been affected.

This data security incident serves as a reminder for companies to prioritize the protection of personal information and for individuals to be vigilant about their online activities. As the investigation continues, Ticketmaster and its customers are hoping for a swift resolution and for stricter measures to be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
