'I've done it': 100-year-old Canadian veteran skydives for charity

At the impressive age of 100, Canadian veteran, Verdun Hayes, has proven that age is just a number by skydiving for charity. The fearless veteran took to the skies in a tandem jump with an experienced instructor, raising money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Hayes, who served in the Royal Navy during World War II, has always been an adventurous spirit. He first tried skydiving at the age of 90 and has since completed multiple jumps, including one at the age of 101. However, this jump holds a special significance for Hayes as it marks his 100th birthday.

“I’ve done it!” exclaimed Hayes after landing safely. “It was wonderful, absolutely wonderful.”

The jump took place at Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon, England, with Hayes being joined by his daughter and grandson who also took part in the jump. The family has raised over £2,000 for the Poppy Appeal, which supports veterans and their families.

Hayes’ bravery and determination have inspired many, including his daughter, who said, “He’s always been an inspiration to me and I’m so proud of him.”

The Royal British Legion also expressed their gratitude for Hayes’ efforts, stating, “We are incredibly grateful to Verdun for his support and for raising vital funds for the Poppy Appeal.”

Hayes’ incredible feat has not only raised money for a worthy cause but has also shown that age should never limit one’s abilities. As Hayes himself said, “Age is just a number, you’re only as old as you feel.”

This remarkable achievement by Hayes serves as a reminder to all that with determination and courage, anything is possible.
