After a successful 14-year career in professional hockey, Brett Sutter has announced his retirement from the sport.
Sutter, who is the son of former NHL player and coach Darryl Sutter, began his career in 2007 when he was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round. He went on to play for various teams in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL), including the Minnesota Wild, Carolina Hurricanes, and Los Angeles Kings.
Throughout his career, Sutter was known for his strong leadership skills and work ethic on and off the ice. He served as captain for several teams, including the Charlotte Checkers and the Iowa Wild, and was a respected veteran among his teammates.
In a statement released by the Iowa Wild, Sutter expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had in his hockey career. He said, “I am incredibly grateful for the support and guidance I have received from my coaches, teammates, and fans throughout my career. It has been an honor to play the game I love for so many years.”
Sutter’s retirement comes as no surprise to those who have followed his career closely. In recent years, he had taken on a player-coach role with the Iowa Wild, showing his dedication to the development of young players.
His contributions to the sport have not gone unnoticed. Iowa Wild General Manager Tom Kurvers praised Sutter, saying, “Brett has been a tremendous leader and mentor for our young players. His passion for the game and his commitment to his teammates will be greatly missed.”
Sutter’s retirement marks the end of an era in professional hockey, but his legacy will continue to live on through the impact he has made on the sport and the players he has influenced throughout his career. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
