The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers to clear their vehicles of snow and ice after a snow-covered vehicle was spotted in Barrie.
According to OPP, a concerned citizen reported a vehicle covered in snow and ice on Highway 400 near Mapleview Drive on Monday morning. The vehicle was reportedly driving at a slow speed and causing a hazard to other drivers.
This incident serves as a reminder to all drivers to take the necessary precautions before hitting the road during winter weather conditions. Snow and ice on vehicles can pose a serious danger to both the driver and other motorists on the road.
Not only does it obstruct the driver’s view, but it can also fly off and hit other vehicles, causing damage or even accidents. In fact, according to the OPP, flying snow and ice from vehicles is a leading cause of collisions on highways.
In addition, failing to clear snow and ice from your vehicle can result in a fine of up to $110 and two demerit points on your driver’s license. This is in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, which states that all vehicles must be cleared of snow and ice before being driven on the road.
The OPP is urging all drivers to take the time to properly clear their vehicles of snow and ice before heading out. This includes not only the windows and windshield but also the roof, hood, and trunk. It is also important to check and clear any snow or ice from the headlights, taillights, and license plates.
By taking these simple steps, drivers can ensure their own safety and the safety of others on the road. Let’s all do our part to prevent accidents and keep our roads safe during the winter season.
