The first set was a closely contested battle, with both players showcasing their skills and fighting for every point. Marterer, who is known for his powerful serve, managed to edge out Auger-Aliassime in a tiebreak to take the first set.

However, the Canadian did not let this setback discourage him. He came back stronger in the second set, breaking Marterer’s serve twice and taking the set 7-5.

The third set was equally intense, with both players refusing to give up. Auger-Aliassime’s consistent groundstrokes and strong serves proved to be the deciding factor as he broke Marterer’s serve once again and closed out the match with a final score of 6-4.

“I knew it was going to be a tough match, but I just kept fighting and believing in myself. I’m happy to come out with the win,” he said.

The 20-year-old Canadian, who is currently ranked 22nd in the world, will now face American John Isner in the second round of the tournament.

This victory is a testament to Auger-Aliassime’s determination and resilience, and it will surely boost his confidence as he continues to make his mark on the professional tennis circuit.
