Princess Anne lays wreath at Battle of Atlantic ceremony; honours late Queen

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II at a Battle of Atlantic ceremony in Vancouver on Sunday.

The ceremony, held at the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre, commemorated the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Atlantic, which was the longest continuous military campaign of World War II.

Princess Anne, who is the patron of the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust, laid a wreath at the ceremony to honor the brave men and women who served and sacrificed during the Battle of Atlantic.

The Princess Royal also took part in a moment of silence to remember the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on April 9 at the age of 94.

The ceremony was attended by veterans, serving members of the Royal Canadian Navy, and members of the public. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was limited to a small number of attendees and was live-streamed for others to watch.

In her speech, Princess Anne highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during the Battle of Atlantic and the impact it had on shaping the world we live in today.

She also praised the Canadian Navy for their role in the battle, stating, “The Royal Canadian Navy played a crucial role in the Battle of Atlantic, and their bravery and determination will never be forgotten.”

The ceremony concluded with a flypast by the Royal Canadian Air Force and a performance by the Royal Canadian Navy Band.

The Battle of Atlantic ceremony serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom. As we honor the late Queen Elizabeth II, let us also remember and pay tribute to all those who served and continue to serve our country.
