Hydro is ramping up its efforts to restore power in western Manitoba, as thousands of residents remain without electricity following a severe winter storm.
According to a statement from Hydro, additional crews have been brought in to assist with the restoration process. These crews are coming from other parts of the province, as well as from neighboring provinces.
The storm, which hit the region on Friday, brought heavy snow and strong winds, causing widespread power outages. As of Sunday evening, approximately 5,000 customers were still without power.
Hydro has been working around the clock to restore power, but the process has been slow due to the extent of the damage caused by the storm. Fallen trees and downed power lines have made it difficult for crews to access some areas.
In addition to bringing in extra crews, Hydro is also utilizing helicopters to survey the damage and identify areas that need immediate attention. The utility company is urging residents to stay away from any downed power lines and to report them immediately.
Hydro has not provided an estimated timeline for when power will be fully restored, but they assure residents that they are doing everything in their power to get the lights back on as soon as possible.
In the meantime, residents are advised to stay warm and safe, and to check on their neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable during power outages.
This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay tuned to CTV News for the latest on the power restoration efforts in western Manitoba.
