Overpass on Hwy. 1 damaged after being struck by truck

An overpass on Highway 1 in British Columbia has sustained significant damage after being struck by a truck on Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near the 200th Street overpass in Langley. The truck, which was carrying a large load, struck the overpass causing a portion of it to collapse onto the highway below.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the damage to the overpass has caused major traffic disruptions in the area. The westbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed for several hours as crews worked to assess the damage and clear the debris.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has stated that the overpass will remain closed until further notice. Engineers are currently assessing the structural integrity of the overpass and determining the extent of the damage.

In the meantime, drivers are being advised to use alternate routes and expect delays in the area. The Ministry has also urged drivers to obey all traffic signs and instructions from flaggers in the area.

This is not the first time an overpass on Highway 1 has been damaged by a truck. In 2019, a similar incident occurred on the 232nd Street overpass in Langley, causing significant damage and traffic disruptions.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has stated that they will be conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

As of now, there is no estimated timeline for when the overpass will be reopened. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
