Heat warning issued for much of the Southern Interior

A heat warning has been issued for a large portion of the Southern Interior, as temperatures continue to soar in the region.

According to Environment Canada, the warning is in effect for the Okanagan Valley, Similkameen, and Boundary regions, as well as the Nicola, Fraser Canyon, and Thompson regions.

The warning was issued on Monday morning, as temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s and low 40s throughout the week.

Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from the extreme heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and seeking out cool, air-conditioned spaces.

The warning also reminds pet owners to ensure their furry friends have access to shade and plenty of water.

This heat wave is expected to last until at least Friday, with temperatures remaining well above seasonal averages.

Environment Canada is also reminding people to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as temperatures inside a car can quickly become dangerous.

The warning comes as the province continues to experience a record-breaking heat wave, with multiple communities breaking temperature records over the weekend.

The City of Kelowna has also issued a heat advisory, urging residents to take precautions and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

As the heat wave continues, it is important for everyone to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy.
