Montreal Model Breaks Barriers by Posing with Ostomy Bag
Montreal, QC – In a bold and empowering move, Montreal model, Karine Lefebvre, is breaking down barriers and challenging societal beauty standards by proudly posing with her ostomy bag.
Lefebvre, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 17, underwent surgery to have an ostomy bag attached to her abdomen in order to manage her condition. Despite the initial shock and adjustment, Lefebvre has embraced her ostomy bag and is now using her platform as a model to raise awareness and promote body positivity.
“I want to show that having an ostomy bag doesn’t make you any less beautiful or worthy,” Lefebvre stated in an interview with CTV News. “It’s a part of me and I refuse to hide it.”
Her powerful message has resonated with many, as her Instagram post featuring a photo of her posing in lingerie with her ostomy bag has received over 10,000 likes and hundreds of supportive comments.
Lefebvre’s courage and confidence in embracing her ostomy bag has also caught the attention of major fashion brands. She has recently been featured in a campaign for lingerie brand, Aerie, and has been approached by other companies to model their products.
“I never thought I would be a model, let alone one with an ostomy bag,” Lefebvre shared. “But I am grateful for the opportunity to represent a community that is often overlooked in the fashion industry.”
According to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, approximately 1.6 million Americans are living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with many of them requiring ostomy bags as part of their treatment. Despite the prevalence of this condition, there is still a lack of representation and visibility for those living with ostomy bags.
Lefebvre’s bold and empowering stance is not only challenging societal beauty standards, but also shedding light on the realities of living with a chronic illness. She hopes to inspire others to embrace their differences and to not let their condition define them.
“I want to show that you can still be confident and beautiful, even with an ostomy bag,” Lefebvre stated. “I hope to inspire others to love and accept themselves, no matter what.”
With her powerful message and growing platform, Lefebvre is breaking down barriers and paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse fashion industry.
