According to organizers, the march will begin at 1 pm at the Sir George-Étienne Cartier monument in Mount Royal Park. From there, participants will make their way to Place des Festivals, where a rally will be held. One of the main goals of the march is to demand that government leaders take immediate and concrete action to address the climate crisis. “We need to prepare for the future, and that means taking action now,” said Emma Lim, a 20-year-old climate activist and organizer of the march. “We cannot afford to wait any longer. Our planet is in crisis, and it’s up to us to demand change from those in power.”
The youth-led march comes just weeks after the release of a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which warned that the world is on track to exceed the 1.5°C global warming limit set by the Paris Agreement. The report also highlighted the urgent need for immediate and ambitious action to reduce emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
In addition to demanding action from government leaders, the march also aims to raise awareness among the general public about the severity of the climate crisis and the role that young people can play in addressing it.
