A group of tennis players in Kelowna, British Columbia were in for a surprise on Sunday morning when a moose decided to join their game.
According to witnesses, the moose wandered onto the court at the Parkinson Recreation Centre around 9:30 am. The players were initially startled by the unexpected visitor, but quickly realized that the moose was not aggressive and seemed to be enjoying the game.
One of the players, Sarah Thompson, captured the moment on video and shared it on social media. In the video, the moose can be seen calmly walking around the court, occasionally stopping to sniff the tennis balls and even attempting to play with them.
Thompson told reporters that the moose stayed for about 20 minutes before wandering off into the nearby park. She also mentioned that the players were careful not to disturb or startle the animal, and continued their game at a safe distance.
This is not the first time a moose has been spotted in the Kelowna area. In fact, sightings of these majestic creatures have become more common in recent years as their population continues to grow.
According to the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, there are approximately 150,000 moose in the province. They are known to be solitary animals and are typically found in forested areas, but can also be seen in more urban settings.
While it may have been an unusual and unexpected encounter, the tennis players were grateful for the opportunity to witness such a magnificent animal up close. They also took the opportunity to remind others to always respect wildlife and keep a safe distance.
As for the moose, it seems to have enjoyed its brief game of tennis before continuing on with its day. This encounter serves as a reminder of the importance of coexisting with the wildlife that shares our environment.
