Getaway car found, but suspect who lit shopkeeper on fire still at large: Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP are still on the hunt for a suspect who set a shopkeeper on fire in a shocking incident that occurred on Monday evening.

According to authorities, the incident took place at a convenience store located on 152 Street and 68 Avenue in Surrey. The suspect, who has not been identified, entered the store and proceeded to pour gasoline on the shopkeeper before setting them on fire.

The victim, who has also not been identified, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.

The suspect fled the scene in a getaway car, which was later found abandoned by police. However, the suspect remains at large and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Surrey RCMP are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward. They have also released a description of the suspect, who is believed to be a Caucasian male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build and short dark hair.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear and investigators are working to determine if the suspect had any prior connection to the victim or the store.

In the meantime, the community is in shock and disbelief over the heinous act. Local residents have expressed their concern and are hoping for a swift resolution to the case.
