The North Bay Battalion have made a significant trade, sending Tnias Mathurin to the Windsor Spitfires. The announcement was made on Tuesday, with the Battalion receiving a conditional 15th round pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection in exchange for the 18-year-old forward.
Mathurin, a native of Montreal, Quebec, was drafted by the Battalion in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. He played in 54 games for the team during the 2019-2020 season, recording 5 goals and 6 assists for a total of 11 points. He also appeared in 4 playoff games, tallying 1 assist.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward is known for his speed and skill on the ice. He was a key player for the Battalion, but the team felt that this trade was in the best interest of both Mathurin and the organization.
“We would like to thank Tnias for his contributions to our team and wish him all the best in Windsor,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis. “This trade allows Tnias to continue his development with a new team, while also providing us with future assets.”
The Windsor Spitfires, who finished last season with a record of 34-20-8, are looking to add depth to their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. Mathurin will join a talented group of players, including 2020 NHL Draft first-round pick Will Cuylle.
The North Bay Battalion, on the other hand, will continue to build their team for the future with the addition of a conditional draft pick. The team is currently in the midst of a rebuild, and this trade is just one step in their long-term plan.
Fans of the Battalion will have the opportunity to see Mathurin in action when the team faces off against the Spitfires on October 17th in Windsor. It will be an emotional game for Mathurin, as he returns to face his former team for the first time since the trade.
The North Bay Battalion organization wishes Mathurin all the best in his future endeavors and looks forward to seeing him continue to grow and develop as a player.
