Northbound Deerfoot Trail closed Saturday at 24 Street S.E.

Northbound Deerfoot Trail will be closed this Saturday at 24 Street S.E. due to construction work, according to the City of Calgary.

The closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 and is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 18. During this time, all northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail will be closed at 24 Street S.E., including the on-ramp from 17 Avenue S.E.

The closure is necessary for the installation of a new pedestrian bridge over Deerfoot Trail at 24 Street S.E. This bridge is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in the area.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure, such as Barlow Trail or Blackfoot Trail. Detour signs will be in place to guide drivers.

The city also reminds drivers to obey all traffic signs and speed limits in construction zones for the safety of workers and other motorists.

This closure is just one of many planned for the Deerfoot Trail Improvement Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve safety on one of Calgary’s busiest roadways. The program includes the construction of new interchanges, widening of lanes, and installation of new pedestrian bridges.
