The family of Tori Dunn, a young woman who was tragically killed in a homicide, gathered outside the Surrey courthouse on Tuesday to demand justice for their loved one.
Dunn, 20, was found dead in her Surrey apartment on December 30, 2020. Her death was ruled a homicide and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case.
On Tuesday, Dunn’s family and friends held a rally outside the courthouse, holding signs and chanting for justice. They were joined by members of the community who came to show their support.
Dunn’s mother, Lisa Dudley, spoke at the rally, expressing her frustration with the slow progress of the investigation. “It’s been almost six months and we still don’t have any answers,” she said. “We just want to know what happened to our daughter.”
Dudley also called for changes to the justice system, saying that victims’ families are often left in the dark and not given enough support. “We need to do better for victims and their families,” she said.
The family’s lawyer, Jason Gratl, also spoke at the rally, criticizing the lack of communication from the authorities. “The family has been left in the dark and they deserve better,” he said.
IHIT has not released any new information about the case, but they have confirmed that they are still actively investigating and following up on leads.
The rally ended with a moment of silence for Dunn and other victims of violence. The family and their supporters then marched to the Surrey RCMP detachment to deliver a letter demanding more transparency and support from the authorities.
Dunn’s family and friends say they will continue to fight for justice for Tori and hope that their efforts will bring attention to the need for improvements in the justice system for victims and their families.
