A trio of brave Samaritans in Mount Pleasant, British Columbia, put their own safety at risk to stop a robbery and knife attack on Wednesday evening.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Broadway and Prince Edward Street. The three individuals, who have chosen to remain anonymous, witnessed a man attempting to steal a woman’s purse while brandishing a knife.
Without hesitation, the trio sprang into action, tackling the suspect and disarming him. They then held him down until police arrived on the scene.
Const. Tania Visintin praised the actions of the Good Samaritans, stating that their bravery and quick thinking prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating.
“Their selfless actions are commendable and we are grateful for their assistance,” Visintin said in a statement.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from Vancouver, has been arrested and is facing charges of robbery and assault with a weapon. The victim, a 29-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
The Vancouver Police Department is reminding the public to always prioritize their safety and to call 911 in the event of an emergency. However, they also commend the bravery of those who choose to intervene in dangerous situations.
“We always encourage people to call 911 and let the police handle these types of situations, but we also understand that some people may feel compelled to take action,” Visintin said.
The incident serves as a reminder that in times of crisis, there are still individuals who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to protect others. The actions of these Good Samaritans are a testament to the strength and compassion of the community in Mount Pleasant.
