The North Bay Battalion secured a thrilling overtime victory against the Owen Sound Attack in a nail-biting game on Friday night.
The game started off with a strong performance from the Battalion, who dominated the first period with a 2-0 lead. However, the Attack fought back in the second period, scoring two goals of their own to tie the game.
The third period saw both teams battling fiercely, but neither could break the tie, leading to an intense overtime period. It was in the final minutes of overtime that the Battalion’s Brandon Coe scored the winning goal, securing the 3-2 victory for his team.
Coe’s goal was assisted by linemates Luke Moncada and Mitchell Russell, who both had impressive performances throughout the game. Moncada also scored one of the Battalion’s two goals in the first period.
The Battalion’s goaltender, Joe Vrbetic, also played a crucial role in the team’s victory, making 33 saves and keeping the Attack at bay during the intense overtime period.
This win marks the Battalion’s third consecutive victory, bringing their record to 6-4-0-0 for the season. It also puts them in second place in the Central Division of the Ontario Hockey League.
Head coach Ryan Oulahen expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “It was a hard-fought game and I’m proud of the way our guys battled until the very end. We showed great resilience and determination to come out on top.”
