Police car involved in crash while responding to person with gun call in East York

A police car was involved in a crash while responding to a call about a person with a gun in East York on Tuesday evening.

According to Toronto police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of O’Connor Drive and St. Clair Avenue East.

The police car was reportedly travelling eastbound on St. Clair Avenue East with its emergency lights and sirens activated when it collided with another vehicle at the intersection.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The two officers in the police car were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, the initial call about a person with a gun turned out to be a false alarm. Police have confirmed that there was no firearm involved in the incident.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash and cleared the scene. It has since been reopened to traffic.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified of the incident, as is standard procedure for any collision involving a police vehicle.

The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that result in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

This incident serves as a reminder of the risks that police officers face while responding to emergency calls. We are grateful that no serious injuries were reported and hope for a speedy recovery for all involved.
