A child was rescued from a ventilation duct in a building in Etobicoke on Monday afternoon, thanks to the quick and efficient response of emergency crews.
According to Toronto Fire Services, they received a call around 2:30 p.m. about a child who had become trapped in a ventilation duct in a building located on The West Mall near Rathburn Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the child stuck in a narrow section of the duct, approximately 20 feet above the ground. The child’s exact age and gender have not been disclosed.
Crews immediately began working to safely remove the child from the duct. They used specialized equipment, including a ladder and ropes, to reach the child and bring them down to safety.
After approximately 30 minutes, the child was successfully rescued and was assessed by paramedics at the scene. Fortunately, the child did not sustain any injuries and did not require further medical attention.
It is still unclear how the child ended up in the ventilation duct, but authorities are investigating the incident. The building’s property manager declined to comment on the situation.
This incident serves as a reminder to always keep a close eye on children, especially in potentially dangerous areas such as ventilation systems. It also highlights the importance of having well-trained and equipped emergency crews who can respond quickly and effectively in times of need.
We are grateful for the swift and successful rescue of the child and commend the efforts of the emergency crews involved.
