The Powassan Voodoos have once again emerged victorious in Kirkland Lake, marking their second consecutive weekend win in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL).
The Voodoos faced off against the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners on Saturday night at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. Despite a strong effort from the Gold Miners, the Voodoos were able to secure a 4-2 victory.
The first period saw both teams battling it out on the ice, with the Voodoos taking an early lead with a goal from forward Cade Herd. The Gold Miners quickly responded with a goal from forward Tyler Fyfe, tying the game at 1-1.
In the second period, the Voodoos took control of the game, with goals from forwards David Campbell and Tomas Yachmenev. The Gold Miners fought back with a goal from forward Austin Whelan, but the Voodoos maintained their lead with a goal from forward Harrison Israels.
The third period saw both teams playing strong defense, with no goals scored. The Voodoos’ goaltender Owen Say was a key player in securing the win, making 33 saves throughout the game.
This win marks the Voodoos’ second consecutive victory in Kirkland Lake, after defeating the Gold Miners 5-2 the previous weekend.
The Voodoos currently hold a record of 6-2-0-1, placing them in second place in the NOJHL’s East Division. They will face off against the French River Rapids on October 11th at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Head coach Max Gavin expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We knew it was going to be a tough game, but our players showed great determination and resilience to come out with the win.”
The Voodoos’ next home game will be on October 18th against the Hearst Lumberjacks. Fans can expect another exciting match as the Voodoos continue their quest for the NOJHL championship.
