Montreal’s Metro to Offer Extended Service Hours on New Year’s Eve
As the year comes to a close, Montrealers can look forward to ringing in the new year with extended service hours on the city’s metro system. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has announced that the metro will run until 2:30 a.m. on January 1st, 2022, allowing revelers to safely and conveniently travel to and from their New Year’s Eve celebrations.
This decision was made in response to the high demand for public transportation on New Year’s Eve, as many people choose to celebrate in the downtown area where parking can be difficult to find. By extending the metro service, the STM hopes to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a more accessible option for those looking to celebrate in the city.
The extended service will be available on all four metro lines, with trains running every 10 minutes until 2:30 a.m. The last trains will depart from the end stations at 2:15 a.m. and arrive at the Berri-UQAM station at 2:30 a.m. From there, passengers can transfer to the night bus network, which will also be operating on a special schedule for New Year’s Eve.
In addition to the extended service, the STM will also be offering free rides on the metro and buses from 8 p.m. on December 31st until 5 a.m. on January 1st. This is a tradition that has been in place for over 20 years, allowing Montrealers to celebrate safely without having to worry about transportation costs.
It is important to note that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the STM is reminding passengers to follow all health and safety measures while using public transportation. This includes wearing a mask at all times, maintaining physical distance, and using hand sanitizer when boarding and exiting the metro.
