A targeted shooting in Coquitlam has left one person injured, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The incident occurred on Monday evening at around 7:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Whiting Way. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Paul Vadik stated that the shooting was not a random act and that the victim was specifically targeted. He also confirmed that the victim is known to police.
The area was immediately cordoned off for investigation, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to assist with the case.
Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a heavy police presence. Some were advised to stay indoors while the investigation was ongoing.
At this time, no suspects have been identified, and the motive for the shooting is still unknown. The RCMP is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
