A sea lion caused quite a stir on a busy highway in British Columbia, but thankfully, the situation ended peacefully.
According to witnesses, the sea lion was spotted wandering on Highway 1 near the Port Mann Bridge on Tuesday afternoon. The animal seemed to be in no rush as it strolled along the shoulder of the highway, causing a traffic jam and attracting the attention of many curious onlookers.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were quick to respond to the scene and worked to ensure the safety of both the sea lion and the drivers on the highway. They were able to successfully guide the sea lion back towards the water, where it eventually made its way back into the Fraser River.
Sergeant Paul Faris of the RCMP stated that the sea lion was “not in any hurry” and seemed to be “enjoying the attention” it was receiving from the passing cars. He also noted that this was not the first time a sea lion has been spotted in the area, as they are known to frequent the Fraser River.
While the situation may have caused some delays for commuters, it serves as a reminder to always be cautious and aware of our surroundings, especially when driving near bodies of water. The RCMP also reminds the public to never approach or attempt to interact with wild animals, as it can be dangerous for both the animal and humans.
In the end, the sea lion’s unexpected visit to the highway ended peacefully and without any harm to anyone involved. It serves as a unique and memorable moment for those who witnessed it, and a reminder of the diverse wildlife that can be found in British Columbia.
