YLW silent auction returns to support aviation students in the Okanagan

The Okanagan’s aviation students are receiving a much-needed boost thanks to the return of the YLW silent auction. The annual event, organized by the Kelowna International Airport (YLW), aims to support students pursuing a career in aviation.

The auction, which will take place on October 21, will feature a variety of items donated by local businesses and organizations. All proceeds from the auction will go towards the YLW Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students enrolled in aviation programs at Okanagan College and the University of British Columbia Okanagan.

According to YLW’s airport director, Sam Samaddar, the silent auction is an important way to give back to the community and support the next generation of aviation professionals. “We are proud to support the education and training of these students who will one day play a vital role in the aviation industry,” he stated.

The YLW Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 and has since awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to 20 students. The fund is open to students pursuing a career in any aspect of the aviation industry, including pilots, air traffic controllers, and aircraft maintenance engineers.

In addition to the silent auction, YLW also offers a mentorship program for students, providing them with the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and gain valuable insights and advice.

The return of the YLW silent auction is a testament to the community’s support for the aviation industry and its commitment to investing in the future. With the funds raised, more students will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and contribute to the growth and success of the industry.

So mark your calendars for October 21 and join YLW in supporting the next generation of aviation professionals in the Okanagan. Your contribution will make a difference in the lives of these students and the future of the aviation industry.
