Emergency road closure on Kelowna's Valley Road after gas line struck

Kelowna, BC – An emergency road closure has been put in place on Valley Road in Kelowna after a gas line was struck on Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:30 pm near the intersection of Valley Road and Springfield Road. The gas line was struck during construction work in the area.

As a result, Valley Road has been closed between Springfield Road and Ziprick Road. The closure is expected to last for several hours as crews work to repair the damaged gas line.

Emergency services are on the scene and have advised residents in the area to avoid the area if possible. Those who live in the immediate vicinity have been asked to shelter in place until the situation is resolved.

FortisBC, the local gas provider, has also been notified and is working with emergency crews to safely shut off the gas line and make necessary repairs.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage to nearby buildings at this time.
