A fire on the Toronto subway line has caused major disruptions and closures for commuters on Monday morning.
According to Toronto Fire Services, the fire broke out at around 6:30 a.m. near the track level at St. George Station. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
As a result, subway service between St. George and Bloor-Yonge stations was suspended for several hours, causing significant delays and overcrowding on other routes. Shuttle buses were brought in to help transport passengers between the affected stations.
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) advised commuters to seek alternative routes and warned of extended travel times. They also urged passengers to avoid the affected area if possible.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire. However, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and protocols in place on public transportation systems.
The TTC has since announced that subway service has resumed between St. George and Bloor-Yonge stations, but delays are still expected as the system gets back to its regular schedule.
This is not the first time a fire has caused disruptions on the Toronto subway line. In 2018, a similar incident occurred at St. George Station, causing major delays and closures.
The TTC has assured the public that they are working to address any issues and improve safety measures to prevent future incidents.
Commuters are advised to stay updated on the situation and plan their travels accordingly. The TTC has also reminded passengers to always follow safety protocols and report any suspicious activity or emergencies immediately.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the TTC and Toronto Fire Services are working together to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.
