A rollover crash on Richter Street in Kelowna caused significant traffic delays on Tuesday afternoon.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred around 2:30 pm near the intersection of Richter Street and Cadder Avenue. A white SUV was seen flipping onto its side, blocking the northbound lanes of Richter Street.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, including police, fire, and ambulance. The driver of the SUV was able to exit the vehicle on their own and was assessed by paramedics. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is believed that speed may have been a factor. The SUV sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Traffic was slowed in the area as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash. Motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible and to expect delays.
This is not the first time a rollover crash has occurred on Richter Street. In 2019, a similar incident happened just a few blocks away, resulting in one person being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As of now, there is no word on whether charges will be laid in connection with this latest crash. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information.
The northbound lanes of Richter Street have since been reopened, and traffic is flowing normally. However, drivers are reminded to always obey the speed limit and drive with caution to prevent accidents like this from happening in the future.
We will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
