The Chatham Maroons are gearing up for an exciting season as they prepare to open their training camp this weekend. The team, which competes in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, is looking to build upon their success from last season and make a strong push for the playoffs.

Head coach Kyle Makaric is eager to see what the players bring to the ice during training camp. He believes that this is a crucial time for the team to come together and establish their identity for the upcoming season.

“We have a great group of returning players and some talented new additions,” Makaric said. “Training camp is where we will see who has put in the work over the summer and who is ready to step up and contribute to our team’s success.”

The Maroons will have a total of 40 players attending training camp, including 10 returning players and 30 new prospects. The coaching staff will have their work cut out for them as they evaluate each player and make tough decisions on who will make the final roster.

“We have a lot of depth and competition at every position,” Makaric added. “It’s a good problem to have, but it will definitely make for some tough decisions.”

The team will also be hosting a pre-season game against the Sarnia Legionnaires on Sunday, giving fans a chance to see the players in action before the regular season begins.

“We are excited to showcase our team and give our fans a taste of what’s to come this season,” said Maroons’ general manager and co-owner, Bill Szekesy. “We have a strong group of players and we are confident that they will put on a great performance.”

The Chatham Maroons’ training camp will take place at Thames Campus Arena, with practices and scrimmages open to the public. The regular season will kick off on September 6th with a home game against the St. Thomas Stars.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the Chatham Maroons are determined to make their mark in the league and bring home a championship. Fans can expect an exciting and competitive season ahead.
