North Bay Police have deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) on a male individual who was making threats on Tuesday evening.
According to a statement released by the North Bay Police Service, officers responded to a call regarding a male who was making threats towards himself and others. The incident took place in the 100 block of Main Street East.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and engage in dialogue with the individual. However, the male continued to make threats and refused to comply with police instructions.
In order to safely apprehend the individual and protect the public, officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon. The male was then taken into custody without further incident.
The use of a CEW is a less-lethal option available to police officers in situations where there is a risk of serious harm to themselves or others. It is designed to temporarily incapacitate an individual and allow officers to safely take control of the situation.
The North Bay Police Service has strict guidelines and training in place for the use of CEWs, and the incident will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Bureau.
The male individual was taken to hospital for medical assessment and is currently in police custody. Charges are pending.
The North Bay Police Service would like to remind the public that the use of a CEW is a necessary tool in certain situations and is only used as a last resort. The safety of the public and officers is always the top priority in any police response.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
