Retired RCMP instructor honoured for saving man’s life on Kelowna pickleball court

A retired RCMP instructor was recently honored for his heroic actions on a pickleball court in Kelowna. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, saved the life of another player who suffered a heart attack during a game.

The incident occurred on August 12th at the Parkinson Recreation Centre. The retired instructor, who was playing pickleball with a group of friends, noticed a man collapse on the court. Without hesitation, he rushed to the man’s aid and began performing CPR.

Thanks to his quick thinking and training, the man was able to regain consciousness before paramedics arrived. He was then transported to the hospital where he received further medical treatment. According to reports, the man is now in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

The retired instructor’s actions did not go unnoticed. On September 1st, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the City of Kelowna and the Kelowna Pickleball Club. The certificate reads, “In recognition of your selfless and courageous actions in saving a life on the pickleball court. Your bravery and quick response are a testament to your training and dedication to public service.”

In an interview, the retired instructor humbly stated that he was just doing what anyone else would have done in that situation. He also emphasized the importance of knowing CPR and being prepared for emergencies, especially in public places where there may not be immediate access to medical professionals.

The City of Kelowna and the Kelowna Pickleball Club are grateful for the retired instructor’s heroic actions and hope that his story will inspire others to learn CPR and be ready to help in times of need. As for the man whose life was saved, he is grateful to be alive and is looking forward to getting back on the pickleball court soon.

This incident serves as a reminder that heroes can come from unexpected places and that being prepared for emergencies can make all the difference. The retired instructor’s bravery and quick response undoubtedly saved a life and his actions will not be forgotten.
