The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-15 on Saturday, marking the third consecutive loss for the Bombers and dropping their record below .500.
Quarterback Chris Streveler, who was filling in for injured starter Matt Nichols, struggled throughout the game, completing only 16 of 28 passes for 160 yards and throwing two interceptions.
The Bombers’ offense was unable to find its rhythm, with Streveler being sacked four times and the team only managing to score one touchdown in the second quarter.
On the other hand, the Tiger-Cats’ offense was led by quarterback Dane Evans, who completed 25 of 32 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Sean Thomas-Erlington also had a strong performance, rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown.
The Bombers’ defense put up a valiant effort, with linebacker Adam Bighill recording 10 tackles and defensive end Willie Jefferson adding two sacks. However, it was not enough to stop the potent Tiger-Cats offense.
This loss drops the Bombers’ record to 5-6, putting them in fourth place in the West Division. They will have a bye week before facing the Edmonton Eskimos on September 27.
Head coach Mike O’Shea acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating, “We have to be better in all three phases of the game. We have to execute better, we have to coach better, and we have to play better.”
The Bombers will need to regroup and make adjustments in order to turn their season around and make a push for the playoffs.
