The Starter Company Fall Cohort has officially launched, providing aspiring entrepreneurs with the opportunity to turn their business ideas into reality.
The program, which is funded by the Government of Ontario, offers training, mentorship, and funding to help individuals start or expand their own businesses. This year’s cohort will support 15 entrepreneurs from the Leeds and Grenville area.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this program to our community,” said Wendy Onstein, Economic Development Manager for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. “Starting a business can be a daunting task, but with the support and resources provided by the Starter Company program, we hope to see these entrepreneurs succeed and contribute to our local economy.”
The program is open to individuals aged 18 to 29 who are not currently in school or working full-time. Participants will receive up to $5,000 in funding to help cover start-up costs such as marketing, equipment, and inventory. They will also have access to business training and mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs.
“The Starter Company program has been a game-changer for many young entrepreneurs in our community,” said Onstein. “Not only does it provide financial support, but it also connects participants with a network of mentors and resources that can help them navigate the challenges of starting a business.”
The Fall Cohort will run for six months, with participants attending workshops and receiving one-on-one coaching to develop their business plans. At the end of the program, they will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to receive additional funding.
Since its launch in 2013, the Starter Company program has helped over 7,000 entrepreneurs across Ontario start or expand their businesses. It has also contributed to the creation of over 3,000 jobs in the province.
Applications for the Fall Cohort are now open and will be accepted until September 30th. Interested individuals can apply online or contact the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville for more information.
“We encourage anyone with a business idea to apply for this program,” said Onstein. “It’s a great opportunity to receive the support and resources needed to turn your dreams into a successful business venture.”
